Electronic Diversity Visa Lottery - US Diversity Visa
Diversity visa is a comprehensive program introduced by the US Department of State as an initiative to increase the number of migrants from the low admission countries that have sent less than 50,000 people in the past five years to the US. It is this numerical limit that decides the country’s eligibility for the Diversity visa program.
This list of eligible countries is reviewed each year by the US Department of State based on the numerical data available with them. Some of the ineligible countries include Mexico, Haiti, China, Canada, India, Jamaica, Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Pakistan, Guatemala, Peru, Russia, Poland, South Korea, Vietnam, UK, Dominican Republic, Brazil, etc.
A total number of 55,000 green cards are given to the immigrants but 5000 of them have been reserved under the NACARA or Nicaraguan Adjustment and Central American Relief Act. There are also regional limits for the diversity program which are given under the formula specified in section 203 (c) of the INA or Immigration and Nationality Act.
There is no minimum age restriction but you have to either have a high school certificate or its equivalent or must have experience in a field for at least two years in the past five years for a job that requires at least two years of training or experience.
The time period of filing of the Diversity visa application is for two months after which the program is closed. All the applications have to be filed electronically with the US Department of State through their official website.
You can file only one application for the year. If you are husband and wife, then also you have to file separate applications. It is essential that you furnish all the mandatory information to the maximum truth. If you fail to furnish the details, the application would be rejected automatically.
Either you can directly file the application or take the help of an agent or attorney. if you need online translation services for your green card application, you can use Babylon.com. The application is completely free of cost though you have to pay your agent or attorney if they do it for you. The lucky winners are selected randomly at the Kentucky consular center through a computer generated drawing.
Only the winners are notified through post by the Kentucky consular center after which you have to appear for the interview on the given date and time. Winning the diversity visa program does not guarantee a green card but it rather opens up the way for you.
